ROME TOWNSHIP — For the next week Brittany Norris will be the reigning queen of the Lawrence County Fair.

The Symmes Valley High senior received the honor at the opening ceremonies of the fair Monday afternoon.

“I am really excited and thankful that they picked me to represent Lawrence County,” said Brittany, daughter of mark and Reanea Norris. Brittany is a nine-year member of the Starlite 4-H Club and a one-year member of Symmes Valley FFA.

She will help out in the livestock arena during the various shows during fair week.

Shawna Myers was named first runner up and Brianna Schneider was named second runner up. Both are also seniors at Symmes Valley.

Also competing for queen were Kara Hopper and Natasha Nance.

There were nine teens vying for Princess with Cheryl Ann Crawford winning the honor. Cheryl is the daughter of Ralph and Althea Crawford and is an eighth grader at Symmes Valley Junior High. She is an 8-year member of the Arabia All-Stars 4-H Club.

Carrie Brock was named first runner up and Samantha Miller was second runner-up. Carrie is a seven-year member of the Getaway Go-Getters 4-H Club and Samantha has been in 4-H for nine years.

But the reigning teens will be doing more than just helping out other competitors. Brittany is entering four animals: two market hogs, a steer and a feeder calf.

Cheryl is entering three animals: a steer, feeder calf and a dairy cow.

Also during the opening ceremonies the Lawrence County 4-H Committee awarded scholarships to seniors Chelsea Keathley, last year’s fair queen, Justin Payne and Garrett Wireman.

Kelsey Huddle, a Rock Hill graduate, received a scholarship from Ohio Valley Bank.
