CHESAPEAKE — The case of the Rome Township man accused of animal abuse has been continued to August.

David L. Brammer, 57, of Daisy Drive, Proctorville, was to have stood trial Friday in the Lawrence County Municipal Courtroom of Judge Donald R. Capper. Brammer is charged with a second-degree misdemeanor animal abuse charge for allegedly mistreating two young horses in June.

The trial has been continued to Friday, Aug. 13, in Capper’s court.

A complaint was made to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office in June that two colts at Brammer’s trailer were wrapped up in their leads, unable to get up and without food and water.

Deputies went to Brammer’s home and found that there was no water for the animals and that one could not get up. Deputies reported that there had been numerous complaints about the living conditions of the animals.

At that time the horses were taken from Brammer and given to third parties. However, Brammer later apparently regain possession of the animals since they reportedly had broken their leads and were running through the Daisy Drive neighborhood.

Currently it is the prosecution’s understanding that Brammer no longer has the horses.

The trial is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
