Local band Kelley’s Bridge will host the first free concert Aug 17 at the newly christened Rotary Fountain in downtown Ironton. The concert will start at 5:30 p.m.

“I was downtown looking at the dedication of the fountain and some of the people there mentioned that it would be a nice place to have a concert,” Bruce Brown, a member of the band, said. “We figured well, we’d try to.”

The Rotary Fountain is located at the intersection of Center and South Third streets in Ironton.

The Ironton Rotary Club recently remodeled the area, cleaning the bricks in the fountain and adding a 20 by 32 feet arbor and some potted plants.

Ironton City Council approved a resolution officially changing the name of the area to the Rotary Fountain.

Kelley’s Bridge, named for the area off of State Route 93 in Lawrence County, plays Celtic and American Traditional music.

In addition to Brown, the band is made up of Brown, Christine Hunt, Herb Rose, Tim Lester and Fay Reinhart, the newest member of the band who plays keyboard. Reinhart is from the United Kingdom and was educated in London.

“She’s really a fine musician,” he said. “She (also) plays harp and we’re hoping to get her to play at least one harp song in that concert.”

Brown said he invites the community to the show.

“I hope that other people will bring their bag dinners or go to one of the fast food places nearby and just sit and enjoy the music,” Brown said.
