IRONTON — Carl Gerald Speaks, 73, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at a local health care center. The Lawrence County native was born Feb. 1, 1937, the son of the late Burl and Martha “Pete” Boggs Cooper.
Mr. Speaks was a 1957 graduate of Rock Hill High School and a former employee with the Dayton Malleable Iron Co.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Speaks.
He is survived by a son, Don Speaks of Greenup, Ky.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Larry Bishop of Ironton and Cathy and Darrell Barker of Flatwoods, Ky.; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Slabfork Cemetery with Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. There will be no public visitation. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
