JOHN BURNS

John O. Burns, 78, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at his residence. The Ironton native was born Dec. 2, 1931, the son of the late John E. and Georgia Davidson Burns. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lucille L. Gee Burns, whom he married Dec. 8, 1954.
Mr. Burns was a graduate of Ironton High School and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a former maintenance worker with Dow Chemical for 20 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of La Grange Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, loved music and played many instruments. He was a knife maker and loved to hunt Indian relics.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Paul L. Burns and Ronnie Burns; and a sister, Rosalie Potter.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Bonnie Tibbs of Columbus; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Brenda and Roger Crews of Gallipolis, Debbie and Eddie Payne of South Point, Joni and Mike Richards of Ironton, Tami and Kenny Bennett of Franklin Furnace and Susan Burns of Ironton; 10 grandchildren, Bobby Crabtree and his wife, Hope, Aimee Kouns and her husband, Kevin, Jason and his wife, Tessa Bennett, Eric Bennett and his fiancée, Autumn Perry, Brent Payne, Kandie Payne, John Ison and his wife, Amy, Chris Ison, Cheryl Tibbs, and Shawn Tibbs; and 14 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Haverhill Cemetery with graveside military rites by V.F.W. 8850 and Pastor Gary Arthurs officiating. There will be no public visitation. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
