Lady Hornets get 3rd win

PEDRO — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets like this winning.

The Lady Hornets won their third straight volleyball match to begin the season with a 3-1 win over the Rock Hill Redwomen Thursday in Ohio Valley Conference play.

Coal Grove took the first game 25-22 but Rock Hill rebounded to win 25-19.

The Lady Hornets then won 25-15 and 25-19 to take the match.

Gabbie Carpenter racked up 24 points in the match to lead the Lady Hornets while Caymi Hillier scored 17. Bailey Harrison had a big game at the net with 11 kills.

In the junior varsity match, Coal Grove won in two sets.

The Lady Hornets host South Point Tuesday in a match between two top title contenders in the conference.

SP-Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE — The South Point Lady Pointers took a 3-0 win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference volleyball match.

The Lady Pointers won 25-4, 25-17, and 25-19.

“The first game we were tight and we couldn’t get anything going,” said Chesapeake coach Dana Edwards. “We started to play better after that, but South Point has a great team. Coach (Steve) Baise does a great job with them.”

Chesapeake plays River Valley Tuesday and Fairland on Thursday in OVC games.
