Fighting Tigers golfers keep on winning

JACKSON — And the tee shot rolls on…

The Ironton Fighting Tigers’ golf team continued its strong play with a tri-match win Thursday at Franklin Valley Golf Course.

Ironton improved to 48-3 on the season as the Fighting Tigers posted a 157 team score to easily beat host Jackson at 172 and Portsmouth Clay with a 186.

Andy Holtzapfel turned in another strong performance as he took medalist honors with a 1-over par 35. After double bogey on the fourth hole, Hotzapfel followed with two straight birdies on the next two holes.

Josh Mullins, Josh Cooke and Josh Zornes proved to be examples of Ironton’s depth. Mullins and Cooke each fired rounds of 40 playing in the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively, and Zornes had the fourth best score at 42 out of the No. 6 slot.

Jonathan Williams was one shot back at 43 and Mason Weisgarber had a good round at 44.

The Fighting Tigers visit Russell, Ky., Wednesday and South Point Thursday in a 4 p.m. matches.
