When the going got tough, so did the St. Joseph Flyers.

In a physical soccer match, the Flyers toughed out a 3-2 win over the Ohio Valley Christian Defenders to avenge an earlier loss last week.

“It was a very physical game. The officials let them play and our kids handled it well,” said Flyers’ coach Dan Blair.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Flyers who had not played since last Monday at OVC.

Payton Blair scored all three St. Joseph goals with two coming off assists by Joseph Payton and Cody Blackburn.

Goalkeeper Justin Mahlmeister racked up 10 saves.

“While the entire team played well, after some early cobwebs, Tanner Carte brought his ‘A’ game in midfield. I was impressed with the effort of our defense as they turned back repeated offensive threats,” said coach Blair.

St. Joseph hosts Maysville St. Patrick at 11 a.m. Saturday.
