Applebutter festival Sept. 25

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Huntington Applebutter Festival will be on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m.

The event takes place at 10th Street and 13th Avenue behind the water fountain in Ritter Park. There will be applebutter making, craft and food vendors, inflatables, music starting at 10 a.m., karaoke, sky divers at 2 p.m., wrestling at 3 p.m., gospel music at 5 p.m., the Saturday Night Jamboree Band at 6 p.m. and Nashville recording artist Ricky Lynn Gregg takes the stage at 8 p.m.

OLBH to sponsor 5K run in Greenup

RUSSELL, Ky. — Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) will sponsor its annual 5K Greenup Old Fashion Days Race Thursday, Oct. 7, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Greenup County Courthouse.

The run is part of the 45th annual Greenup Old Fashion Days. Race registration begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Greenup Christian Church Family Life Center, Main Street, Greenup, Kentucky.

Entry fee is $15 if received before Oct. 1 and $20 after. The first 150 entrants will receive a race T-shirt. Awards will be presented in each age category.

John Carey receives more endorsements

John Carey (R-Wellston) has received more endorsements to win the 87th Ohio House Seat which includes Gallia, Jackson, Vinton and parts of Ross and Lawrence Counties.

The Ohio Manufacturing Association (OMA) has endorsed Carey because of his past efforts in supporting and keeping jobs in Ohio. “Our goal is to elect candidates that help and promote Ohio manufacturing,” said Eric Burkland, president of the OMA.

“Jobs is the number one issue and I am going to continue to do everything I can to help keep and bring jobs to our area,” Carey said.

Ohio Civil Service Employees Association, Ohio Nurses Association and the Ohio Council of Carpenters have also endorsed John Carey for his bid to win the 87th Ohio House District.

“I am very proud to receive the endorsements of these hardworking men and women. I am humbled by their trust and will work hard to treat them fairly in legislative policies and respect their very important roles in our state,” Carey said.

Planetarium hosts star party

PORTSMOUTH — Shawnee State University’s Clark Planetarium will be hosting a Star Party at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 on the east side of the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) and inside the ATC.

The party is open for everyone and the planetarium is asking anyone who has a telescope to bring it to the Star Party. Anyone who does not have a telescope, the planetarium will supply one to use during the party.

Participants will have the chance to build a telescope better than the one Galileo used for his first observations of the Moon, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn.

For a $50 donation, participants can decorate their telescope any way they like, take it home, and help the Clark Planetarium purchase more telescopes to use in classrooms.

Individuals or organizations interested may donate equipment, time or money.

Sunday, Sept. 26 will be used as a back-up date if weather conditions are not favorable.
