Williams, Ironton blister ICC course

PINE GROVE — Jonathan Williams made his Senior Night one he’ll never forget.

Williams put together his career-best round of golf with a 2-under par 33 to lead the Ironton Fighting Tigers to a quad match victory on Wednesday.

Ironton had its best team score of the season with a 148 to beat the Ashland Tomcats by seven strokes. The Jackson Ironmen were third at 178 and the Fairland Dragons shot a 216.

Williams recorded a par on seven holes and birdies holes No. 12 and 15 as the teams played the back nine.

Andy Holtzapfel remained hot as he shot a 2-over 37 and Mason Weisgarber was just one shot back with a 38. Josh Zornes turned in a strong round of 40 to complete the Ironton scoring.

Ironton’s other three golfers played well even though their scores were not counted. Josh Cooke, Josh Mullins and Andrew Hicks all carded a 42.

The Fighting Tigers (53-3) play in the Rowan County (Ky.) Invitational beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.
