Point Pleasant’s offense too much for South Point

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — It started bad and finished worse.

The South Point Pointers at the onset of the game and the Point Pleasant Black Knights kept the momentum going as they posted a 48-8 win Friday.

The Pointers (1-3) fumbled on the third play of the game and the Black Knights scored three plays later on a 15-yard pass from Eric Roberts to Layne Thompson for a 7-0 lead.

South Point used a 60-yard pass from Tevin Mitchell to Curtis Jackson to set up Mitchell’s 3-yard scoring run and Kyle Dickess ran for the conversion to give the Pointers an 8-7 lead.

After the Pointers’ defense held, the offense fumbled the ball away again and Roberts turned a broken play into a 1-yard scoring run and it was 14-8.

JaWaan Williams had two short touchdown runs in the second quarter as the Black Knights opened up a 28-8 halftime lead.

Point Pleasant (3-1) put the game out of reach on a 55-yard scoring gallop by Chris Blankenship in the third quarter and it was 35-8.

Blankenship finished with 115 yards rushing while Williams had 75 yards rushing and 69 receiving for 144 yards of total offense.

South Point was held to 185 yards offense including 125 rushing. The 60 yards passing came on one play.
