WHEELERSBURG — In a battle of offenses, it took balance to tip the scales.

The Wheelersburg Pirates used a balanced offense to pull away from the Rock Hill Redmen 33-0 Friday night.

Wheelersburg (3-2) finished with 344 total yards with Shears hitting 6-of-8 passes for 100 yards and he ran six times for 62 yards.

Brandon Schankweiler also showed some balance for the Pirates as he ran 12 times for 88 yards and caught and caught a pass for 35 yards.

Rock Hill (0-5) did rack up 237 total yards including 183 on the ground. Shane Harper carried 19 times for 105 yards. Trey Wilds had five receptions for 43 yards.

The Redmen had 17 first downs to 16 for the Pirates.

Tommy Graf gave Wheelersburg a 7-0 lad with a 1-yard run in the first quarter. Dillan Lewis kicked the conversion.

Shears hit Andy Stegman with a 21-yard scoring pass in the second quarter to extend the lead to 14-0. Schankweiler then ran 20 yards for a touchdown later in the quarter and it was 21-0 at the half.

Schankweiler got his second touchdown on a 14-yard run in the third quarter and it was 27-0.

Brett Hood also ran 14 yards for the Pirates’ final touchdown late in the third quarter. Rock Hill’s Tyler Cox blocked the extra point.

Wheelersburg head coach Rob Woodward missed the game. He suffered an appendicitis attack and was hospitalized.
