Lawrence County Commissioners are still waiting for a proxy from the Rome Township Trustees concerning the authority of four township roads.
In late August, eastern end developer Danny Holschuh approached the commissioners about their taking over four roads in the Applewood and Crystal subdivisions in Rome Township.
Typically when an individual wants a private drive to become a county road he seeks the approval first from the township trustees. However in this case, at least two trustees do not want that authority.
In August Rome Trustee Charles Fuller objected to the commission putting that responsibility onto the trustees. Thus Commissioner Les Boggs at that meeting asked for their proxy for the commission to make the determination.
During its regular Thursday meeting the commission approved sending out another request for the proxy.
Also at the meeting the commissioners approved supporting an application for tax credits and grants for renovations at Lawrence Village, a low-income housing complex in South Point.
At the request of the Proctorville Woman’s Club, the commissioners declared the week of Nov. 8-12 as Women Veterans Recognition Week in the county.
Right now there are 1.8 million women veterans in the country with just over 60,000 women from Ohio serving in the military.
“There are women serving more than people know,” Mary Stephens, chairman of membership of the club, said.
In other business the commissioners:
• Accepted the resignation of Angel Skinner from the Department of Job and Family Services. Skinner has taken employment elsewhere.
• Approved the recalling of James Gordon as an income maintenance worker with the department.
• Received the weekly dog warden report where 32 dogs were destroyed, 3 sold and one redeemed. Currently there are 50 dogs at the shelter.
• Accepted Private Drive 227, County Road 104 into the Union Township Road System.
