Rio Grande’s athletic ‘recruiting day’ Sunday

RIO GRANDE — Are you a high school student/athlete interested in a college career as both? The University of Rio Grande may just have a spot for you.
The Rio Grande annual Athletic Recruiting Day will be held Sunday with registration beginning at 1:30 p.m. inside the Lyne Center located in the Newt Oliver Arena on the campus.
Rio Grande is a member of the strong NAIA Division I Mid-South Conference.
The RedStorm offers opportunities to play collegiate athletics in women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, baseball, softball, cheerleading and dance team.
Coaches in the various sports will be available to meet prospective student/athletes. Parents and students will take a tour of the campus and obtain information concerning admissions, financial aid, housing and eligibility.
“The event has been very successful for all our programs in recruiting student-athletes to the University of Rio Grande,” said men’s head basketball coach Ken French who serves as athletic recruiter.
“The event is open to any senior high school athletes interested in obtaining more information about what the University of Rio Grande can offer.”
There are currently several former student/athletes from Lawrence County who play on various Rio Grande sports teams.
