BEREA (AP) — The Cleveland Browns have lost starting defensive end Robaire Smith and offensive right tackle Tony Pashos to season-ending injuries.

The team placed both players on injured reserve Wednesday. The move with Smith was expected because of a back injury. But coach Eric Mangini did not reveal until Wednesday that Pashos, who started Cleveland’s past three games, injured his ankle in Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh.

To fill the roster spots, the Browns signed wide receiver Yamon Figurs and offensive lineman Paul McQuistan.

The Browns are in need of a wide receiver and kick returner after Joshua Cribbs and Mohamed Massaquoi suffered concussions in Sunday’s loss to Pittsburgh.

Smith has been one of the Browns’ best defensive players since the club signed him as a free agent in 2007.

Mangini indicated that Smith, 32, may have to consider retirement.

Mangini said he had a long talk with Smith on Tuesday about his life after football.

“I love Robaire,” Mangini said. “He’s got kids. He’s got a long life. You never discourage anything. I want him to keep playing, but I want him to have a good, long, healthy life.”
