WHEELERSBURG — The end came sooner than they might have wanted, but it didn’t come without a fight.

The St. Joseph Flyers lost 8-2 to the Wheelersburg Pirates Monday in the Division III district semifinals.

“We ended the season 10-6-1 and the St. Joe faithful can take pride in their team,” said Flyers’ coach Dan Blair.

“Wheelersburg was on top of their game last night. Not to take anything away from the Pirates, but our kids played a lot better than the score indicated. We missed a lot of chances.”

The Flyers’ first goal came on a 25-yard shot to the upper corner of the goal by senior Cody Blackburn. Senior Tanner Riley added the second goal off a well-placed assisting pass from senior Payton Blair.

“Wheelersburg was on top of their game last night.” The Pirates and the Flyers both played a fast-paced and intense game,” said coach Blair.

“Wheelersburg is a talented and well-coached team and we wish the Pirates well on their playoff run.”
