COAL GROVE — The 2010 season ended at Rocky Top Raceway on Saturday, October 23rd with the running of the “Fall Classic” presented by Dr. Terry Johnson for Ohio State Representative.
It was a record setting night as a total of 99 cars came to race on what was a great fall evening.
In the $2,500 to win Late Model feature, Evans, West Virginia driver Chris Garnes took the lead at the start.
With Garnes leading, fourth place starter Greggie Oliver quickly moved into the second position. Oliver caught Garnes within five laps and got right to his bumper as the two battled for the lead.
Garnes pulled away though during the second half of the race and came across the checkers to take the “Fall Classic” win.
Oliver finished second with Tim Dohm third, Freddie Carpenter fourth, and Derick Fisher fifth. Fisher, Garnes, and Paul Davis won heat races while Delmas Conley won the B-Main.
Polesitter Adam Jordan took the lead to start the AMRA Modified feature. The man on the move early on was fifth place starter Todd Robinson as he methodically picked off cars to move up to the second position by the halfway mark of the race.
Robinson bided his time and with five laps to go jumped to the high side to pass Jordan to take the lead. Robinson opened up his lead from there and went on to take the $1,000 feature win.
Jordan finished second with Robert Garnes third, Craig Christian fourth, and Jimmy Lemenx fifth. Adam Jordan, Craig Christian, and Luke Jordan won heat races while Sammy Hobbs won the B-Main.
Jamie Adams dominated the $800 to win Bomber feature to lead all 20 laps and claim the win. Dale Kessel finished second with the No. 22 of Seitz in third, the No. 77r of Stephens in fourth, and Perry Dearing fifth. Dearing, Adams, and Seitz won heat races.
Aaron Pendleton and Mark Noel put on a show early on in the Mod Lite A-Main as the two battled side by side for the lead.
The two raced hard but clean for the races first six laps until Noel spun while battling for the lead.
From there, Pendleton dominated to claim his first career RTR feature win with Kevin Spencer finishing second, the No. 99t of Riggs third, Dan Aldridge fourth, and Shane Rittenhouse fifth. Noel and Pendleton won heat races.
The last race of the evening, the 50-lap Enduro, may have ended up being the most exciting race held during the 2010 season. In the final 10-lap shootout, Robbie Ratcliff, Benji Fout, and Maddie Swisher battled three wide for the lead.
The trio stayed three wide for two laps until contact sent Swisher spinning wildly to the infield.
That left the battle for the lead between Ratcliff and Fout. The two exchanged the lead multiple times with Fout leading coming to the white flag.
On the final lap going into turn three, Ratcliff got underneath of Fout as they battled side by side for the win. The two then made heavy contact with Fout getting turned off of turn four and Ratcliff going on to take the win.
Rocky Top Raceway would like to thank everyone for supporting the track for the 2010 season. Although the season was plagued by rainouts, it will go down in the books as one of the most competitive seasons of racing in track history as the season ended with no repeat winners in the Late Model division.
Please visit the track’s official website at www.rockytopraceway.net for information regarding the 2011 season such as rules and the schedule will be released over the offseason.
