Dawson-Bryant implements reward program

As the high school football season nears its end, the leaves begin to fall and area marching bands head off to the state marching band finals, students in Lawrence County already have a quarter of the school year complete.
With one nine weeks finished, students countywide wait in anticipation as report cards are mailed home. However at Dawson-Bryant High School, students have a new incentive to do well. For the 2010-2011 school year, the high school implemented a new reward system called Hornets on Top (HOT) to honor students who excel in the classroom, maintain good attendance, and demonstrate positive behavior.
During each nine weeks, students who qualify for the HOT program receive a membership card.
There are three levels of cards determined by a student’s grade, attendance and behavior. With each card level, students receive a variety of perks. All students that possess a card earn free admission to home sporting events, an express lunch pass, qualify for door prizes, and receive a Hornets on Top t-shirt and coupons to area restaurants.
The highest achieving group of students will take a field trip in December to the Clay Center in Charleston, W.Va. and enjoy a luncheon hosted by Principal Steve Easterling. As the year progresses, new prizes will be incorporated. Ultimately, students will have an opportunity to win Visa gift cards and prom tickets in the spring.
The faculty advisors for HOT would like to thank the following businesses and individuals for their generous support in implementing HOT this semester: McDonald’s, Chick-fil-a, Rax, Wendy’s, Texas Roadhouse and Easterling.
If you or your business would like to get involved in the HOT program, please contact Dawson-Bryant High School at (740) 532-6345.
