Marshall gets past Jackson State

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Shaquille Johnson scored 18 points and had four steals to lead Marshall past Jackson State, 66-60, on Monday night in the Global Sports Challenge.

The Thundering Herd (3-1) led 31-28 at halftime, and used a big second-half run to break it open.

Leading 38-33 with 15:38 left to play, Marshall outscored the Tigers 17-7 over the next eight minutes to lead 55-40 on Johnny Thomas’ layup.

After shooting 43.5 percent from the field in the second half (10 of 23), Jackson State (0-5) was limited to 11-of-36 shooting in the second (30.6 percent).

Marshall’s Dago Pena scored all 11 of his points in the second half. Terrell Baines added 13 points for the Thundering Herd and DeAndre Kane chipped in 10.

Marshall shot 52.8 percent from the field in the game (19 of 36).

Tyrone Hanson led the Tigers with 20 points, and De’Suan Dixon added 14.
