Community must always be thankful

Even in these difficult economic times Lawrence County residents have much for which they can be thankful.
As we gather with family and friends today to celebrate Thanksgiving, each of us should take a moment to pause and reflect on all the things in our lives, in our communities and in our region for which we can be thankful.
Lawrence County and Southern Ohio is blessed with a tremendous quality of life.
Although things are not perfect, we do not have near the crime or drug problem that many of our fellow Americans face elsewhere.
Of course we need more jobs, but we should be thankful for all the companies who are still here, keeping our friends and neighbors employed.
We should be thankful for our community leaders and elected officials. Although we may not always agree with their decisions, they sacrifice much to strengthen and move our community forward.
We should be thankful for our religious leaders who work to ensure that faith remains an important part of the fabric of our region.
We should be thankful for the law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, firefighters and soldiers who protect our homes, our families and our freedoms.
Most of all, we should be thankful that we live in America, the land of the free and the home of the brave.
