Lady Hornets give Roach first career victory

CHILLICOTHE — It took all to give Rick Roach number one.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets used a team effort to beat the West Union Lady Dragons 49-29 Friday in the Zane Trace Shootout and give head coach Rick Roach his first career victory.
“My bench was the difference in the game,” said Roach. “It was a great team effort.”
Ashley Adkins had 17 points while Hope Ratcliff scored 12 points and was named the Hornets’ MVP of the game.
“Adkins started slow in the third quarter, but she heated up and scored eight points,” said Roach. “Ratcliff took over the scoring in the second quarter.”
Coal Grove led 16-6 at the end of the first quarter and then Ratcliff took command in the second quarter to help open up a 28-12 halftime lead.
Adkins scored all 8of Coal Grove’s points in the third quarter to make it 36-19.
Coal Grove plays at Fairview, Ky., Monday.
