Church tour showcases area’s faith

Although the tour itself may focus mostly on the beauty and history of the actual buildings, at the heart of the event is the commitment to faith that is ingrained in our community.
The Lawrence County Historical Society is all set for its annual Candlelight Christmas Tour Saturday.
The event remains a tremendous celebration of small-town America and it is as much about faith as it is about architecture.
The event, which is hosted by eight churches in the Ironton community, is really something that anyone who loves history can appreciate.
Certainly the churches themselves are beautiful and tell a lot about the community over the years.
But perhaps the most uplifting part is the stories behind the churches and of the congregations that held to their faith and helped move our community forward.
The tour will start at First Baptist Church, located on the corner of Fifth and Vernon streets at 5 p.m.
The historical society will have refreshments at the Lawrence County Historical Museum, offering a great chance to see all that the volunteers have done to ring in the season with themed rooms and decorations.
Even more than the bricks and mortar that keep these churches strong, faith has always been a foundation of Ironton and Lawrence County.
This event puts both on display for all to see.
