Businesses smart to raise money

It is a way for two local restaurants to help a good cause and help their own cause — growing their businesses — at the same time.

Buffalo Wild Wings in Ironton and Casa Grande Mexican restaurant in Chesapeake have both partnered with the Lawrence County Young Professionals’ Secret Santa project to offer promotional events where a percentage of the revenue is donated to the charity.

BWW’s was Monday. Casa Grande will host their community day Thursday.

This is a good approach because it really benefits everyone involved.

The charity project gets some extra revenue. The businesses get some positive publicity and may attract customers they might not see otherwise. And supporters get to help out a good cause and eat some good food in the process.

More area businesses need to take this approach to promoting themselves because it often generates some free advertising and great word of mouth promotion. And perhaps most importantly it shows that these businesses are a part of the community, in tune with the needs and challenges we all face.

These two restaurants deserve to be recognized as this week’s “Good News, Good Neighbors” spotlight.

Hopefully others will follow suit and everyone can celebrate this Christmas.
