The Kentucky state bowling doubles team champions are from Ohio.
Ironton’s Greg Justice and Fred Miller teamed up to win the Kentucky state bowling championship during the state tournament held recently.
Justice and Miller put up a first-day total of 1,430 actual and 1,543 with handicap. Justice had a 709 actual while Miller posted a 721 with handicap.
“We put it up the first shift of the first weekend and it held up,” said Justice of the three-weekend tournament event.
With area bowling centers closing, Ironton’s Spare Time Recreation and Ashland’s Blue Ribbon Lanes are the only two remaining bowling facilities that are part of the Greater Ashland Area Bowling Congress.
This year Ashland was the host site of the Kentucky state bowling tournament and split up the competition in the two bowling centers. The team event was held at Spare Time while the singles and doubles competition was held in Ashland.
“A lot of guys go where the state tournament is being held. I did it because it was in Ashland,” said Justice.
