Blanche Gertrude Riggle Wilson

Blanche Gertrude Riggle Wilson, 94, passed away Dec. 8, 2010, at the ranch home of her daughter Mary Georgellen Wilson and José A. Mora at Abo, N.M., where she had lived since 2006.
Mrs. Wilson was born Sept. 11, 1916, at Cheap (now Flatwoods), Ky., to George Willis Riggle and Eva Erwin Riggle. Her family moved to a farm near Aid in 1923 where she lived until 1962. She graduated from Kitts Hill High School in 1935. She and her husband and children moved to Urbana in 1962.
She married Franklin L. (Roy) Wilson on Oct. 29, 1946, at the home of the late Rev. E. Cecil Jones on Myrtle Ridge, near Andis. Roy was a descendant of the Henry Wilson and Sarah Martin family who were among the first settlers of Lawrence County in 1813.
In addition to Mary and José, Mrs. Wilson is survived by daughter, Rebekah Evalee Thissen, of Columbus; two grandchildren, Angela Assi of Columbus and Charles D. (Nick) Barrow (Tess Buckalew) of Lancaster; three great grandchildren, Lauren Barrow, Spencer Barrow, and Adam Assi; her niece, Lorraine Augerbright (Augie) of Colon, Mich., and her nephew, Paskell Dillon (Vera) of Willowwood.
She was preceded in death in 2003 by her husband, by her parents, three sisters, Grace Dillon, Isamay Riggle and Berthaleen Riggle, and brother, George Elbert Riggle who was killed at the Battle of the Bulge in 1944.
Mrs. Wilson will long be remembered for all of the beautiful crochet work, which she did up until the day of her death. She was also very proud to have served as a WAC during World War II at Fort Knox, Ky. She became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution through her ancestor, Andrew Hatfield, a Captain in the Revolutionary War.
Her daughter Mary served as National President of the League of Women Voters from 2006-2010.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the League of Women Voters of the United States, 1730 M St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20036 or the DAR, Lucy Knox Chapter, c/o 904 E. Chestnut St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
Visitation will be at 12:00 noon on Tuesday with services following at 1:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home. Burial will be at Aid Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be José Mora, E.L. Augerbright, Nick Barrow, Paskell Dillon, Larry Norris, and Jim Manning.
