Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless has issued a level two snow emergency for the county. The alert was issued around 9:45 a.m. Thursday, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
A level two snow emergency means that roads are hazardous (including primary roads) with blowing and drifting snow a possibility.
The sheriff’s office warns that only people who feel it is necessary to drive should be on the roadways. Employees should contact their employers to see if they should report to work.
During the emergency, people are asked not to call the sheriff’s office or 911 for information, but instead are asked to listen to the radio.
The sheriff will announce immediately when conditions have downgraded and the level changes.
