Attempt may be connected to others in Portsmouth

The Ironton Police Department is looking for two male suspects who attempted to hold up a bank Monday afternoon but walked away empty handed.

The attempted robbery happened around 4:30 p.m. at Liberty Federal Savings Bank on Park Avenue.

Bank employees told police a vehicle pulled into the drive through and the driver told tellers he had an explosive device and demanded money.

The teller activated the bank alarm and the suspects fled in the vehicle east on Park Avenue without receiving any money, according to a release from the IPD.

The two subjects wore disguises to conceal their identities and fled in a white Chevrolet Beretta, police said.

Detectives are exploring the possibility that the robbery attempt is connected to three other robberies in Portsmouth that were committed Dec. 11, Dec. 22 and earlier in the day Monday.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the Ironton Police Detectives Division at 740-532-5606.
