Alice Marcum

SOUTH POINT — Alice Marcum, 91, of South Point, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Mingo County, W. Va., native was born Feb. 17, 1919, the daughter of the late Riley and Lola Hatcher Rose. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Marcum.

Mrs. Marcum attended schools in Kermit, W. Va. She was a former nurse’s aide for Valley Nursing Home, retiring in 1981 and was also a member of the Moore Street Tabernacle in Ashland, Ky.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Scotty Marcum; her sister, Stella Brewer; and her brothers, Willard Rose and Ray Rose.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Ermal and Maxine Marcum of Coal Grove, Rether Marcum and Rose Marcum of South Point and Paul and Nancy Marcum of South Point; four daughters and sons-in-law, Deloris and Jess Mullens of Columbus, Ines and James Holleman of Huntsville, Texas, Dorie and Michael Willis of Ashland, Ky. and Ruth and John Dennin of Vero Beach, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with Dr. Dale Maddy officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
