Fred Penwell

Fred Penwell of Ironton, formerly of Washington Court House, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at Jo-Lin Nursing Home after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 7, 1926, the son of the late Homer and Ruth Fout Penwell.
He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin D. Penwell; a stepmother, Betty D. Penwell; five brothers; and seven sisters.
Mr. Penwell was a retired construction worker with Local 83 Portsmouth, Local 421 in Columbus as well as in West Virginia. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Ironton and VFW.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Jean and Jeff Schiller; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Freddie Penwell and Becky Bailey of Pedro, Steven Penwell of Washington Court House, and Jeffery and Nina Penwell of Pedro; six grandchildren, Scott Montgomery and Michele Rhonenus of Greenfield, Brian and Amber Schiller of Washington Court House, Travis D. Penwell of Washington Court House, Jeremy Penwell, Zachary Penwell and Kayla Penwell and Chris Ball; four great-grandchildren, Chance Montgomery, Madison Penwell, Colyn Ball and Krissa Ball; two brothers, Billy and Betty Penwell of Washington Court House and Jerry and Diane Penwell of Sabina; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Summers Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Danny Dodds officiating. Burial will be in Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today.
