NEW BOSTON — Let’s hear it for the supporting cast.

The headliners put on a performance, but it was the supporting cast that stole the show as the Symmes Valley Vikings outscored the New Boston Tigers 79-73 Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Luke Taylor had a huge game with 27 points and 23 rebounds to lead the Vikings (6-3, 2-2). Josh Craft scored 18 points and D.J. Miller added 10 points, four assists and two steals.

But Vikings’ coach Jerome Fuller said it took a team effort to get the win.

“Luke Taylor had a big game and Josh Craft scored some big points, but more than anything we got contributions from others,” said Fuller.

Aiding the Vikings were Ryan Stanley with 12 rebounds, Brad Lemaster and Corey Brown with four points each, Jacob Patterson with eight rebounds, and Tyler Wilson with seven points and four assists.

Levi Horsley scored a game-high 29 points for New Boston (0-9).

Taylor scored eight points and Miller hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter as the Vikings took a 22-18 lead.

The lead was 42-33 at the break, but the Vikings managed just 11 points in the third quarter.

“In the third quarter we came out ice cold and allowed them to get back in the game,” said Fuller.

Horsley scored all 15 of New Boston’s points in the third quarter to cut the Vikings’ lead to 53-48.

Taylor then scored 10 points and Craft seven in the fourth quarter as the Vikings outscored the Tigers 26-25. Craft was 5 of 6 and Mitchell Patterson 3 of 4 from the line to help seal the win.

“When we needed a basket or when we needed a rebound, Luke would get it,” said Fuller. “Craft and Patterson both hit some free throws we needed.”
