Relay for Life makes real difference

Probably most well-known for its candlelight walks and its poignant survivors’ lap, the Lawrence County Relay for Life is about far more than that.
The annual event embodies all that is good about our communities and our residents who have a passion for fighting to make a difference.
And although the two-day event may be months away, slated for May 20 and 21 this year, organizers and teams are hard at work trying to get the word out and make sure that as many people as possible come together in the fight against cancer.
Organizers held a kickoff celebration Tuesday and talked about new events and some of the many fundraisers that will be held throughout the spring before the relay itself.
Cancer is a devastating disease that has touched the lives of each and every American. We will never find a cure if we don’t stay vigilant and push for answers.
That concept is at the heart of the Relay for Life events.
These community celebrations honor our cancer survivors and raise money for research to help ensure as many people as possible join those ranks.
For their efforts, these organizers are featured as this week’s “Good News, Good Neighbors” showcase because this is a project that the entire community should embrace and support.
Every penny makes a difference in making sure there is a victory in this fight.
