HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Fairland Dragons left nothing to chance this time.

After losing 80-75 in the semifinals to Wahama, the Dragons dominated the Wayne Pioneers in the consolation game of the 34th St. Joe Invitational Blue Bracket 83-34 Friday at Veterans Memorial Field House.

Fairland (7-5) used 15 players with 11 reaching the scoring column.

“It was a good game for us. We played well on offense and defense and we got everyone a chance to play,” said Fairland coach Nathan Speed. “It was a good game for us to have.”

Evan Salyers led the Dragons with 19 points and five rebounds despite playing less than two quarters.

Jon Baise had 13 points, six assists and three steals. Blaine Fuller scored 11 and Chad Fisher had 10 points and five assists. Josh Goodman came off the bench to grab seven rebounds.

Wayne (0-10) was led by Allen Bryant with nine.

Salyers dominated the first quarter as he scored 12 points and the Dragons bolted to a 26-9 lead.

Fairland was up 42-26 at the half and put the game away by outscoring the Pioneers 27-6 in the third quarter. Salyers had six points, Baise five and Fulller four to account for most of the Dragons’ total in the quarter.

In the championship game, the St. Joe rallied in the second half from a 4-point halftime deficit to win 71-58 over Wahama.
