Panthers wrestlers take third

CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Panthers finished third in the own wrestling invitational tournament.
Spring Valley (W.Va.) went 5-0 to win the tournament with Winfield (W.Va.) 3-2 to take second. Chesapeake was also 3-2 in team competition and had six wrestlers finish among the top two places compared to five for Winfield.
However, Winfield’s team depth proved to be the difference.
Ashland (Ky,) was fourth with a 2-2 record followed by Fairland at 1-4 and Lincoln County (W.Va.) was 0-4.
Taking first place for the Panthers were Alex McDonald in the 130-pound class, Tommy Noble at 160 pounds and Richard McFarland in the 285-pound division.
The three second place finishers for Chesapeake were Jerrod Browning at119 pounds, Dyland Maynard at 130 and Joe Haynes in the 125-pound division.
The Fairland Dragons had three wrestlers among the top two place finishers.
Nathaniel Brewer claimed first place in the 189-pound class while runner-up spots went to Robbie Todd at 152 pounds and Cody Swiger in the 215 class.
