Obama pleas shouldn’t fall on deaf ears

If viewers took anything away from Tuesday’s State of the Union address by President Barack Obama it was likely the pleading for cooperation and bipartisanship.

The president put forth the call for an end of the rhetoric. So what is the problem? Well, it is that this is basically just rhetoric itself.

Although it sounds good when Obama and the Democrats talk about cooperation, the reality is they aren’t willing to bend much more then their Republican counterparts.

Obama’s message was a strong one, and one that we think could help America move forward.

But it is almost as likely to happen as little green men from Mars landing on the White House lawn.

The president certainly is justified in his pleas and may have won some in his appeal to some GOP members.

Our leaders on both sides of the aisle have to stop thinking along party lines and start looking at issues themselves.

Many of the points the president was making were things that aren’t Republican issues or Democrat issues but American issues. You know, things like unemployment, economic growth and curbing the national debt.

But, without question, the most important part was that plea for cooperation, realistic or not.

If our leaders can make this happen it will be the first step towards changing the face of our nation.
