BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. — Thelma Adams Roark, 94, died Jan. 25, 2011, in Barboursville. She was born Dec. 24, 1916, in Magoffin County, Ky., the daughter of the late Raney P. and Della Risner Adams. In 1943 she and her late husband, Guy G. Roark, who died in 1993, left Kentucky and moved to a farm on Little Ice Creek at Forestdale in Lawrence County, where they raised their five children. In 1956 they moved to Kenova, W.Va., where they operated a dry cleaners. Self-educated and a hard worker with strong faith and values, her great interest was in flower gardening and quilting. She was the oldest and longtime member of Westwood United Baptist Church in Ashland. She is survived by her five children, Gaylord (Betty) Roark of West Jefferson, Jewell Matthews of Huntington, Faye (David) Todd of West Jordan, Utah, Zelda (LtCol. Ret. Ed) Mills of Austin, Texas and Corbett “Corky” (Patsy) Roark of Kenova; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova on Saturday at 1 p.m. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. preceding the service. Burial will follow in Dock’s Creek Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or expressions of sympathy may be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House at P.O. Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709.
