The trap was set, but the Fairland Dragons weren’t about to get caught in it’s net.

Coming off a big league win on Friday and facing another key conference game on Tuesday, the Dragons could have been sitting ducks for the Raceland Rams.

But the Dragons didn’t show any signs of a letdown as they routed the Rams 64-29 in the Ironton Shootout Saturday.

“Our kids played hard. We had a big game Friday and a big Tuesday, but we were ready. We didn’t have a letdown. We competed,” said Fairland coach Nathan Speed.

Fairland (10-5) was led by Evan Salyers with 12 points and Jon Baise with 10 as 12 different players scored.

Salyers also had six rebounds and four assists while Chad Fisher got four rebounds and five assists.

The Dragons were 24 of 42 from the field including 22 of 35 from 2-point range for 63 percent.

“We’re playing with more energy right now,” said Speed.

Jonathan Holbrook scored all eight of his points in the first quarter as Fairland took a 23-6 lead.

The lead was 31-12 at the half and then Salyers scored six points in the third quarter as Fairland opened up an insurmountable 50-21 lead.
