HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Cabell Huntington Hospital has been awarded a National Hospital Charitable Services Award for its outreach programs to encourage Tri-State residents to live healthier lives.
The award was presented Thursday evening during a national hospital charitable services conference in Atlanta. Cabell Huntington Hospital was one of 33 national finalists for the award, and one of 10 hospitals in the country to win the top honor. The hospital received a cash reward of $10,000, which it will invest in additional health improvement efforts to be announced in the near future.
Cabell Huntington was recognized for its widespread efforts to reduce obesity and improve community health in the Tri-State area, including its funding of cook training in all Cabell County Schools, its support of Huntington’s Kitchen, its development of a health-themed playground at The Huntington Mall and its sponsorship of the “Healthy Tri-State” educational campaign on WSAZ-TV.
“We are truly honored to be recognized as a winner of the first-ever National Hospital Charitable Services Awards,” said Brent A. Marsteller, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cabell Huntington Hospital. “Our mission since the creation of Cabell Huntington Hospital in 1956 has been to care for our community, and this award is a public confirmation that we are doing the right things to provide that care.”
Hospital programs were chosen based upon five criteria: community impact, innovation, collaboration, transferability and best practice. The award was created in 2010 by Atlanta-based Jackson Healthcare to recognize hospitals for their work in the communities they serve.
Cabell Huntington Hospital was the only hospital in West Virginia or Kentucky to be named a finalist for the awards.
