Hazel Childers

SOUTH POINT — Hazel Smith Childers, 101, of South Point, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, in River’s Bend Nursing Center. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with her grandson, Pastor Aaron Childers, officiating. Burial will follow in Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne, W.Va. Hazel was born Aug. 31, 1909, in East Lynn, W.Va., a daughter of the late Samuel and Sarah Napier Smith. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Pearley Childers; one daughter, Evelyn Childers; one brother, Lucian Smith; one sister, Ethel Hale; and one grandson, Lindell Ray Childers, Jr. Hazel is survived by five children, Janice Poirier and her friend, Gale Briar, Lindell Ray Childers and his wife, Alice, Anita Malone and her husband, Robert, Edgar Gene Childers and his wife, Jodie, and Lloyd Dale Childers and his wife, Donna; 17 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; one sister, Edith Short; one brother, La Vernon Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
