The Dawson-Bryant Board of Education has decided on the fate of a bus driver who was placed on administrative leave after leaving a child on her bus.

The board passed a resolution to suspend the bus driver involved in a Jan. 31 incident in which a student was left on the bus after the other passengers where dropped off at the school.

The driver’s unpaid suspension began on Feb. 10 and will not exceed 20 days, said superintendent Dennis DeCamp.

“Because of the driver’s excellent work record and remorse for the incident, the board decided a multiple day suspension without pay was appropriate,” he said.

DeCamp also said the district has taken action to reemphasize student safety to all bus drivers.

All 13 daily bus drivers as well substitute drivers met to discuss pre- and post-trip inspection procedures. DeCamp said the group was “somber.”

“We do have a good group of bus drivers,” he said. “It was an unfortunate incident.”
