Chesapeake finishes unbeaten again in OVC

PROCTORVILLE — Going back-to-back meant the Chesapeake Panthers have made it three in a row.
Chesapeake went 10-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference for the second straight season to cap off their third straight league title as they rolled past the Fairland Dragons 85-44 Saturday night.
“We got off to a good start on both ends of the court and we just kept it going,” said Panthers’ fourth-year head coach Ryan Davis.
Nathan Copley scored 10 points and Javon Thompson had eight more for the offense in the first quarter while the defense held the Dragons to five points and it was 25-5.
The Panthers were up 44-15 at the half and Austin McMaster scored 10 points in the third quarter as the lead grew to 62-29.
McMaster and Copley finished with 21 and 20 points, respectively, to pace the Panthers who end the regular season 19-1 overall. Eric Kennedy and Thompson each scored 15 points.
Evan Salyers and Jonathan Holbrook scored 12 points each to lead Fairland (13-7, 7-3) who finished second in the league race.
The two teams will play in the Division III sectional finals at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Chesapeake plays at Jackson against Monday’s winner between Rock Hill and Minford. Fairland plays at Athens against Monday’s winner between Belpre and Zane Trace.
