Baines, Herd beat Tulsa; Freeman keys Ohio win

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Tirrell Baines scored a career-high 26 points as Marshall dominated Tulsa early for a 79-61 victory Wednesday night.
The Thundering Herd (19-9, 7-6 Conference USA), which won its fourth straight game, jumped out to a 20-3 lead and led 42-28 at halftime.
After pushing the margin to 22 with 18:04 to play, Marshall hit a dry spell that allowed the Golden Hurricane (15-12, 8-5) to cut the deficit to 16 with 12:15 to play.
Tulsa could get no closer and the Thundering Herd took its biggest lead, 24 points, at 77-53 with 3:56 left.
Baines was 9 for 12 from the field and 8 for 12 from the free-throw line while Damier Pitts added 19 points and a season-high eight assists.
The Golden Hurricane came into the game with a plus-6.2 rebounding margin, second in the league, but was outrebounded 42-26.
Jordan Clarkson led Tulsa with 16 points and Justin Hurtt had 15.
Ohio 70, Bowling Green 60
ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Tommy Freeman scored 20 points and became Ohio’s all-time leader in 3-pointers as the Bobcats defeated Bowling Green 70-60 Wednesday night.
Freeman hit 5 of 12 shots from the field, and every one he made was a 3-pointer, giving him 244 for his career. The Bobcats (15-13, 7-6 Mid-American Conference) trailed 32-30 at halftime, but never were behind by more than four points. They took the lead for good on Freeman’s fourth 3-pointer, 49-47 with 7:52 left and went on to their third straight win and seventh in nine games.
The Falcons (12-16, 7-6) seldom got second opportunities in losing their fourth straight. The Bobcats outrebounded them 42-25 as Reggie Kelly and DeVaughn Washington each grabbed 12. Washington had his seventh career double-double by adding 10 points, a scoring output matched by teammate Ivo Baltic.
Craig Sealey’s 14 points led Bowling Green.
