HECLA – Ruby Adams, 86, of Hecla, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born April 16, 1924, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Rose Stamper Ackison. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Adams whom she married Nov. 5, 1940.

Mrs. Adams attended Pedro schools and was an active member of M.T.A. and booster club at Rock Hill. She was a former employee for Henrites and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Michael Ray Adams, a brother, Meredith E. Ackison, and three sisters, Dorothy Rodehaver, Myrtle Besco and Rosetta Morrison.

She is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law: Ronald and Sharon Adams of Ironton, Roger L. Adams of Kitts Hill, Gene and Debbie Adams of Pedro and Benny and Dawn Adams of Kitts Hill; a sister, Betty Bowman of Ironton; two brothers-in-law, Homer Rodehaver and Paul Morrison, both of Ironton; a former daughter-in-law, Linda (Adams) Purcell of Columbus; nine grandchildren: M.E. and Teri Rowe of Ironton, Bernie and Kim Preston of Ironton, Stacy and Kenny Knipp of Chillicothe, Keith and Julia Adams of Hecla, Myra and Robert Stevens of Kitts Hill, Michael Adams of Ashland, Ky, Michelle Adams of Ironton, Amanda and Travis Morgan of Buffalo, W.Va., and Amy and K.D. Payne of Kitts Hill; 12 great grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, six step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Philips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Rev. Scott Jenkins and Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. At the family’s request, contributions may be made to Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, Ky.
