Ironton Pastor Brent Baker knows the power of prayer when it comes to changing the lives of individuals. Now, Baker and other pastors in the city hope to apply that positive change on a much larger scale.
Baker, the pastor at Central Christian Church, is the driving force behind what he is calling a “Joshua Walk” scheduled for June 12-18.
The concept has roots in the Scripture and could have an impact of Biblical proportions.
The event centers on praying for six consecutive days and then circling the city in prayer on the seventh.
The pastor has already garnered support from fellow religious leaders in the community and is seeking more participation. This is something we hope to see make a positive impact in Ironton.
Any effort that brings people together to build relationships on faith and hope is a tremendous task. And even non-believers should be able to see value in the Joshua Walk because, at the very least, it will continue to shine a light on the problems impacting our communities including drug abuse, economic depression and civic apathy.
According to the Old Testament, Joshua and his men circled the city of Jericho once each day for six days. On the seventh day, they circled seven times and when the priests blew their trumpets and the men shouted, the walls came down.
Baker and those participating hope to knock down economic and spiritual barriers that have kept Ironton from its true potential.
