OUS gearing up for big Civil War trip
Seats are filling up fast for Ohio University Southern’s spring Education on Location trip, which will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
The trip this spring, organized by Travel World and headed by OUS history professor Bob Leith, will take travelers to historic Civil War battlefields and forts in Virginia. The trip is open to OU students seeking credit in American history or anyone in the community looking to spend a weekend away to learn about history.
Tina Canter of Travel World said this spring’s trip, May 12-15, has sold well, more than 35 reservations so far. The maximum count for the trip is 50, she said.
The cost of the trip includes a round-trip motor coach transportation, lodging, three breakfasts, two lunches, one dinner, admissions to various sites, baggage handling, taxes and gratuities.
For a single occupancy lodging, the cost is $469, double occupancy is $379, triple occupancy is $349 and quad occupancy is $339. A deposit of $100 is due at time of booking, with the rest of the money due by April 1. Tuition for those seeking credit is not included in the cost of the trip.

•Guided walking tour of Fredericksburg battle field
•Guided walking tour of Chancellorsville battlefield
•Ellwood family cemetery to see the burial place of Stonewall Jackson’s arm
•Hampton Roads Harbor tour aboard the Miss Hampton II
•See the site of the Battle of the Monitor and the Merrimac and Chesapeake Bay
•Norfolk Naval Base
