Retirement party for Dutey slated

A reception to say farewell to retiring County Auditor Ray “Moose” Dutey will be at his office at the courthouse from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday.

Dutey is leaving the auditor’s office after more than two decades in the post. The auditor’s office will be closed to public business starting at 1 p.m.

Workshop to focus on governor’s Jobs Ohio initiative

PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Inner City Development Corporation (PIDC) 1206 Waller St., Portsmouth, is sponsoring a Minority Business Assistance Center (MBAC) workshop focusing on Gov. Kasich’s Jobs Ohio initiative.

This workshop will be held on Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the auditorium. The goal of this workshop is educate the small and minority business community throughout Southern Ohio on the state of Ohio’s new initiative certifying your business with the State of Ohio, procurement opportunities, loan and bonding programs with the state, and there will be a presentation by Flour-B&W demonstrating bid and contracting prospects at the United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC) Piketon plant. OU to host Ohio’s EDGE workshop

CHILLICOTHE — The Southern Ohio Procurement Outreach Center presents an informative workshop on “Ohio’s EDGE Program.”

This workshop is for any small business owner who wants to learn about the purpose and benefits of the EDGE certification in state contracting. Topics include:

·Eligibility standards

·The application process

·Maximizing your EDGE certification

·Identifying local agencies and prime contractors to market your business

The workshop will be held on Thursday, from 1-4 p.m. at Ohio University- Chillicothe Campus, Shoemaker Center, Room 215. The registration fee is $5.

Funday Monday Book & A Movie has Irish theme

SUMMIT, Ky. — The Funday Monday Book & A Movie program starts at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the branch, 1016 Summit Road, across from Boyd County Middle School. It is free to attend, and movie snacks are provided.

“Darby O’Gill and the Little People” is a 1959 Disney movie starring Sean Connery. It is a tale of a wily Irishman and his battle of wits with leprechauns. The movie is based on books written in the early 1900s by Hermione Kavanagh.
