Fred McMahon

SCOTTOWN —  Fred McMahon, 85, of Scottown, was born Nov. 16, 1925, to Otis and Naomi Ellcessor McMahon and died March 15, 2011 at Heartland of Riverview Nursing Home after several years of illness.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Arno, John, Everett and James McMahon; and two sisters Alma Markins and Caraloise Franklin. He is survived by his wife, Erma Griffith McMahon, whom he married on Jan. 11, 1948; and three sons, David McMahon of Scottown, Michael (Margaret) McMahon of Columbia, Tenn. and Phillip (Margaret) McMahon of Ironton. He is also survived by four granddaughters, Sara (Cameron) Kemplin, Ann McMahon, Kimberly (James) Evans and Deidra Hardy; one grandson, Michael McMahon; and three great granddaughters, Lily Kemplin and Meghan and Miranda Stephens.

Fred was born in the house where he lived his entire life, except for the three years in the service in World War II, where he was in the Philippines. He attended Mason-Aid Elementary and Waterloo High School and upon his discharge from the U.S. Army he returned to the farm and was employed by Inco Alloys for almost 30 years. He was active in the VFW.#2761, Amvets 141 and American Legion and several farm organizations and was a member of the Masons and Symmes Valley school board for almost 28 years also and was of the Methodist faith.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Tracy Brammer Funeral Home in Ironton with Pastor Darrell Fowler officiating. Interment will be at the Locust Grove Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Symmes Valley VFW #2761. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the day of the service at the funeral home.
