The Ironton City Health Department’s mission is to provide the citizens of Ironton the best public health care that we can provide, by promoting wellness and preventing disease.

The services we provide our citizens are immunizations for babies, children, teens and adults.

We also have specialty clinics for people under the age of 21 for vision and hearing. We have lead testing and hemoglobin checks for children that are performed by our public health nurse Bonnie Holmes.

Our medical director, Dr. James Meadows, performs sports/employment physicals once a month.

The environmental health services are performed by our director Lana Cherrington. These inspections include food service inspections, vegetation control, water and sewage inspections, animal bites and inspections of pools and manufactured home parks.

Our environmental enforcement officer is Fred Schaefer.

Mr. Schaefer takes care of our litter control through the city along with illegal dumping. We affectionately call him our “weeds and seeds man.”

Our vital statistics registrar is Juanita Dalton who handles our birth and death certificates.

ICHD provides quality care at low cost.

We also accept Medicaid, Medicare, Molina, Unison and Care Source. No one under the age of 18 is denied services for inability to pay.

We are governed by our Board of Health whose members are Mayor Rich Blankenship, Patti Rice, Tyler Walters, Dr. Mark Pack, Pat Wiseman and Jennifer Willis.

We work in cooperation with many agencies such as Ohio Department of Health, Ohio EPA, Appalachian Family and Children First Council, Ohio Department of Human Services, Ohio Department of Health Vital Statistics and Lawrence County Health Department.

The Ironton City Health Department is located at 2120 S. Eighth St. The phone number is (740) 532-2172 and the hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

We hope to provide the necessary resources to assist our community to be a healthy, safe place to live, work and enjoy.
