Civic group needs some volunteers

Its name matches its mission. Operation Tidy-up Lawrence County perfectly illustrates the goal of the grassroots civic organization dedicated to beautification on the county’s eastern end.
For more than six years a group of dedicated volunteers has come together a couple times each year to focus on litter cleanup, community revitalization and beautification in the Chesapeake in Proctorville areas.
Last year, the group had more than 200 people participate in the combined cleanups and picked up more than 550 bags of litter along 40 miles of roadway.
But now, as the group tries to maintain its past success and grow for the future, organizers are looking for a few good men and women who want to help make a difference.
The group will have its first cleanup event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The starting point is the Chesapeake Community Center. Volunteers will be assigned an area to clean and given supplies.
Organizations like Operation TLC — and the group that is somewhat its counterpart Ironton in Bloom on the western end — can continue to be vital parts of our community that truly help increase and showcase civic pride, something that may have waned in recent years.
We hope that concerned citizens find a way to give this organization a little TLC of its own.
