Redwomen stay in control to win

Sami Nixon had good control and the Rock Hill Redwomen took control as they beat the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 8-1 Tuesday.
Nixon gave up four hits and struck out six but did not walk a batter in going the distance to get the win.
“She threw the ball well,” said Rock Hill coach Mary Jane Harper.
Morgan Schug was 3-4 with a double and Lindy Simpson 2-3 with a double to lead the Rock Hill offense.
Nikki Elswick was 2-3 with a triple for Ironton (1-1).
Rock Hill broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the top of the second inning.
Simpson singled, Haylia Gannon was hit by a pitch and Nixon walked to load the bases. Morgan Damron hit into a fielder’s choice to score a run, Chelsea Harper tripled for two runs and Schug singled home Harper.
Ironton got a run in the bottom of the inning when Elswick tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
The Redwomen pushed across two runs in the third when Brooke Hanshaw reached on an error, Simpson doubled, BreeAnna Depriest hit a sacrifice fly and a throwing error scored Simpson.
The final two runs scored in the sixth.
Damron walked, Harper reached on a fielder’s choice and Schug and Dani Crabtree both grounded out to score runs.
