ASHLAND, Ky. — Good wasn’t good enough.
Despite some strong pitching, the Fairland Dragons couldn’t overcome five errors in a 3-0 loss to the Ashland Tomcats on Tuesday.
Chad Fisher, Corey Barker and Tanner Schenewark combined to allow only five hits, but the Dragons managed only three hits as they evened their record at 1-1.
“The game was pitched well enough to win,” said Fairland coach Bryan Ward. “We had some guys in scoring position but couldn’t get them in. But we had five errors and that’s a killer.”
Tanner Sowards, Jon Baise and Fisher each went 1-2 for the Dragons.
Ashland (4-0) got two runs in the second inning when Hunter Brislin singled, Aaron Penick reached on an error as Brislin scored, and Dylan Delaney singled home a run.
The third run scored in the third inning when Sam Hunter was safe on an error, stole second, took third on a passed ball and scored on Billy Certain’s sacrifice fly.
Fairland (1-1) hosts Spring Valley on Thursday.
